Privacy policy

Your counts stay yours.

This is the plain-English version of what Tally Counter does with data, and what it does not. It covers the app on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Android, and this website.

The short version

  • Your counters, folders and history stay on your device. I never see them.
  • There is no account and no sign-in.
  • This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics.
  • The app measures how it is used, through PostHog, so that crashes get fixed and features earn their place.
  • Nothing is ever sold, and nothing is used for advertising.

Who is responsible

Tally Counter is made by Andrei Vakulski, an individual developer. I am the person responsible for the data described here — the data controller, in the language of the GDPR.

This website

clickcount.app is a static site, and it is built to stay out of your way:

  • No cookies. The site sets none at all.
  • No analytics and no trackers. There are no tracking pixels, no advertising scripts, and no third-party embeds. Every image, style and script the site loads is served from clickcount.app itself.
  • One thing stored in your browser. Your light or dark theme choice is saved under the key theme in your browser's local storage. It stays in your browser, is never sent anywhere, and disappears when you clear the site's data.

The site is hosted on Cloudflare. Like any web server, it processes your IP address, your browser's user-agent string and the time of each request in order to deliver pages and to protect the site from abuse. These are ordinary server logs, held by Cloudflare for a short period, and I do not use them to build any picture of individual visitors.

The app: what stays on your device

Counters and everything attached to them — names, colours, steps, initial values, goals, folders, notes and the full timestamped history — are stored on your device. Counting works fully offline, there is no account to create, and there is no server of mine holding your counts. I have no way to read them.

The app: how it is measured

The app uses PostHogfor product analytics and error reporting. I use it for two things only: keeping the app stable, and understanding which features are actually used so the app can stay small and get better. It is not used for advertising, and it is not used to build a profile of you.

What is sent:

  • Events describing how the app is used — screens opened, features used — together with a randomly generated identifier for the installation, the app version, your device model, operating system version and language.
  • Crash and error reports: the technical details of what failed and where.
  • Your IP address, as part of making the request. PostHog may derive an approximate, city-level location from it.

What is never sent:

  • Your counter names, values, notes or history. None of that leaves your device, in any form.
  • Advertising identifiers. The app uses no ad networks, no IDFA or Android Advertising ID, and does no cross-app or cross-site tracking.
  • Your name, email address or any other direct identifier.

PostHog processes this data on my behalf, as a processor, and not for its own purposes.

Backups

On Android you can back up to Google Drive, and on iOS to iCloud, or as a backup file saved to iCloud Drive or the Files app. In every case the backup goes into your ownaccount, not mine. I have no access to it, and what happens to it is governed by Apple's or Google's privacy policy rather than this one.

Purchases

Premium and Pro Lifetime are sold through the App Store and Google Play. Apple and Google handle the payment: I never see your card details, your billing address, or any other payment information. What reaches me is the aggregate sales and subscription reporting the stores provide, which does not identify individual buyers.

Support and feedback

If you email me, I see your address and whatever you choose to write, and I keep the message for as long as it takes to help and to have a record of the conversation. If you vote on features inside the app, your vote is recorded so the results can be counted. Please do not send me anything sensitive that I do not need in order to help.

What I never do

  • I never sell or rent your data, to anyone, for any price.
  • I never show ads, and there are no advertising SDKs in the app.
  • I never share your data with data brokers.
  • I never make automated decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects.

Why I am allowed to do this

If the GDPR or a similar law applies to you, these are the legal bases I rely on:

  • Providing the app and the website, and handling purchases: performance of a contract with you.
  • Analytics and error reporting: my legitimate interest in keeping the app working and improving it. You can object to this — see your rights below.
  • Answering your emails: my legitimate interest in providing support.

How long it is kept

  • On your device: until you delete a counter, clear the app's data, or uninstall the app. That is entirely under your control.
  • Analytics and error reports: no longer than is needed for the purposes above.
  • Emails: as long as needed to help you, and for a reasonable record after.
  • Server logs: a short period, set by Cloudflare.

Where the data goes

PostHog and Cloudflare may process data outside the country you live in, including in the United States. Where that happens for data protected by European or UK law, the transfer relies on appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you have some or all of the following rights: to accessthe data held about you, to have it corrected or deleted, torestrict or object to its processing, and to receive it in aportable form. To exercise any of them, emailtrekound.apps@gmail.com.

One honest caveat: because there is no account and analytics uses only a randomly generated installation identifier, I usually cannot tell which records belong to which person. Where I genuinely cannot identify you, some of these rights may not apply, and I may need more information from you before I can act.

You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority if you think something here is wrong.

Children

Tally Counter is a general-purpose utility and is not directed at children under 13, or under 16 where that is the local threshold. I do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has provided data, email me and I will delete it.

Changes to this policy

When this policy changes, I will update the page and the date at the top of it. If a change is significant, I will say so in the app or on the site rather than quietly editing the text.
